1. What it is
Vendu reads a few public pages of a website in two cases: when an owner enters their own company’s website, to suggest its industry and a short description; and when a firm emails an owner who uses Garde, to show the owner what the firm’s own website says about it (its team, its deals and what it invests in). The reader tells the site nothing about who asked.
It names itself with this user-agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; VenduBot/1.0; +https://vendudeal.com/bot)
2. What it reads
- Public pages only. It never logs in, fills in forms or submits anything. It reads a page’s text and links, not its images or scripts.
- A handful of pages. For a firm, the home page and at most five more of its own pages (such as team, about or portfolio), one at a time. For a company, the address its owner enters.
- Not often. What it finds about a firm is kept, and the site is read again only after 90 days (after 7 days if the last read found too little to go on, and the next day if a read failed). It may try both the domain and its www address. Each owner can ask for only a limited number of website suggestions an hour.
- With limits. Each read stops after a few seconds or about a megabyte, and follows at most a few redirects. It never reads internal or private network addresses.
- The domain’s registry record. For a firm, Vendu also looks up the domain’s public registration date through rdap.org, or the domain’s own registry.
It doesn’t read robots.txt yet.
3. Questions or opting out
